Lead Installers
Basic Function:
Sets up, plans, coordinates and supervises installation projects. Oversees leads and crews, and any subcontractors or outside vendors. Is responsible for high quality of service and cost effective management of labor resources, quality of work, meeting cost parameters, finishing on time and complete customer satisfaction for work performed. Other Duties as Assigned.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
Personal and Interpersonal Skills:
- Can train and develop leadmen and installers
- Is comfortable and professional with crew, customers and dealership personnel; professional in appearance and in social interaction with others
- Has excellent oral and written communication skills
- Provides strong leadership and has full respect of crews
- Has strong work ethic and very ethical approach to the business
Technical and Product Skills:
- Has good understanding of contract furniture scope of work including account servicing, design and order preparation, order management, factory interface, delivery & installation and project management
- Understands interior design and construction processes; can read construction and furniture drawings and blueprints
- Is mechanically adept and has excellent installation technical abilities; proficient with tools and equipment; excellent at custom applications; finished installations are of high quality
- Is extremely product knowledgeable, across all lines of furniture carried by dealership; can figure out installation of new lines through analysis and extrapolation
- Can specify product, using full product nomenclature; understands correct product application and use; can do small layouts and reconfigurations without relying on designers or sales staff
- Is fully knowledgeable of electricity, electrical hookups to building power, data and voice cabling, basic furniture codes, and other technical installation issues
- Has a thorough understanding of installation: labor management, product assembly, material handling, staging and sequencing of product, field paperwork, etc.
Customer/Organizational Interface:
- Responds to customer requests and determines scope of work; defines installation requirements based on customer’s request
- Interfaces with sales, account manager, project managers and project coordinator representatives throughout installation; communicates project status, cost, schedule adherence, changes of scope, problems and punch list items, and customer’s satisfaction
- Provides installation technical consultation to customer and customer’s team
Installation Planning:
- Visits site; performs field measurements as required
- Inventories existing product, as required
- Secures installation plans and documentation; reviews them for completeness, accuracy and definitive scope of work information
- Develops installation work plan, schedule and logistics based on overall project parameters, project schedule and scope, and customer’s goals
- Attends project meetings and communicates project information to project manager, salesperson, project coordinator, operations as required
- Schedules manpower with scheduler; establishes equipment, trucks, and supply needs
Installation Coordination & Supervision:
- Monitors order and shipping status with project manager/project coordinator
- Issues product pull lists to warehouse, as required
- Coordinates with contractor, building manager, electrician, cabling contractor, etc.
- Supervises installation, reviews status, performance and schedule adherence
- Ensures that field paperwork is complete, accurate and processed in a timely manner
- Manages change orders and changes to scope of work; solicits customer’s approval and processes paperwork as required
Punch List/Installation Close Out:
- Develops punch list
- Monitors actual to estimated hours
Responsibility and Decision Making Skills:
- Accepts accountability for project success; cost, completion, schedule adherence, punch list, customer satisfaction, etc.
- Acts as part of the Operation Division management team; assists in developing and implementing Division procedures, work practices, standards of performance, etc.; understands Operations economics and cost accounting; takes strong role in the development of installation personnel
- Is capable of reacting to varying project/field conditions and able to make decisions to solve problems and changes in the scope of work
Project and Installation Management Skills:
- Can plan, organize and effectively direct a large crew of installers on small to large projects
- Can supervise and project manage large and/or complex installation projects (100 plus workstations, complex reconfigurations, etc.)
- Strong crew leader who sets daily performance/result expectations, and has the respect of his/her crew
- Has excellent material handling and logistic skills; practices efficient material handling on, and off site
- Can analyze and develop detailed work plans for installation projects
